Behind every exceptional bottle is a lifetime of experience, an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, and a shared belief that great wine begins in the vineyard. Patent Wines brings together two of Napa Valley’s most respected professionals, combining more than five decades of winemaking expertise with entrepreneurial vision to create expressive, site-driven wines.
Tom Rinaldi
With more than 50 harvests behind him, Tom Rinaldi is one of Napa Valley’s true winemaking pioneers. As the original winemaker at Duckhorn Vineyards, Tom helped establish one of California’s most iconic wine brands before going on to craft acclaimed wines for Provenance Vineyards, Hewitt Vineyard, Pellet Estate, and several other renowned Napa Valley estates. At Patent Wines, he personally guides every wine from vineyard selection through final blending, allowing each site to express its unique character with balance and elegance. Known just as much for his signature collection of vibrant Hawaiian shirts as his passion for cycling Napa’s backroads, Tom brings warmth, humility, and over five decades of expertise to every bottle he creates.
Eric Risch
Eric Risch combines entrepreneurial vision with a deep passion for exceptional wine. After building a successful career in technology and digital marketing, he followed his dream to Napa Valley, where he partnered with Tom Rinaldi to create Patent Wines. Eric leads the winery’s operations, marketing, and hospitality, while fostering lasting relationships with growers, collectors, and wine enthusiasts. His dedication to showcasing remarkable vineyard sites and creating memorable wine experiences extends beyond Patent Wines through his leadership within the Napa Valley wine community, including serving as President of Appellation St. Helena.
