AMW Faves List

Favorite Par 3 – #12 – it is hard not to choose this hole as the backdrop is something out of a movie set.  Couple that with a brilliant hole and it is signature.
Favorite Par 4 – #5 – similar to the #12 but add water and a beautiful walk toward the palace.  Just stunning!
Favorite Par 5 – #18 – sounds like a broken record but with the palace in the background and and tough finishing hole, this rounds out the trifecta.
Favorite Hole Design – #10 – fun and tempting, rewarding and penalizing.  This is a great hole to start off the back nine.
Easiest Hole – #10 – and it is the easiest if you play it right!  Whether you go for the green or lay up, the 10th is a perfect time for birdie.
Hardest Hole – #15 – arriving toward the end of the round, they walk has been long and the ground soft.  Without much roll this can be a long hole.
Favorite Extra Sighting – statues and remnants lurking throughout the property.
Favorite Apres Golf – drinks on the outside patio at the club, walking the streets of Vienna.
Where to Stay – Imperial Riding School (Bonvoy), Hotel Sacher, Hotel Imperial, The Ritz Carlton, Grand Ferdinand
Where to Eat – Tian (vegan Michelin restaurant), Steirereck (Michelin three-stars),  Mast, Wirr (brunch), Sixta, Aida (coffee and pastries).

It's AMW Story Time!

Amidst the vines for Austria’s great wine,
Lives a course so beautiful, lovely and fine.
Between the walls of a palace so old,
Stories of centuries past surely are told.

A walk in the park through glorious trees,
Another set of holes to bring you to your knees.
The GC Schloss Schönborn is true to its core,
An experience of a lifetime always in store.

Göllersdorf, a town in the district of Hollabrunn in Lower Austria is site to the Schönborn Palace at Göllersdorf, now a part of the Golf Club Schloss Schönborn.  Built between 1712 and 1717 by the Austrian baroque architect and military engineer, Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, the Palace is a beautiful representation of the magical and grand works of that time in Austrian history.

Though best known for his works in Austria, Johan Lukas von Hildebrandt was born in Genoa, Italy in 1668.  He studied both architecture and engineering in Italy, moving to Vienna in the late 1690s.  It was in Vienna that Hildebrandt honed his skills and work creating an image and design specifically known to him.  Utilizing more decorative elements and favoring a mix of the Louis XIV French architecture and Baroque style, or “Kaiserstil”, he became internationally renowned for blending the needs of a personal touch with that of sophisticated, sometimes very opulent, requests.  In addition to the Schönborn Palace in Gölersdorf, Hildebrandt’s more important works include the Upper and Lower Belvedere, St. Peter’s Church (Vienna), Schloss Hof, Palais Schwarzenberg, and many other stately buildings, before his death in 1745.
