Long, long ago in a land far, far away, the King of the Fairies, Niall na n-Ard, lived near the village of present day Ballyliffin.  Battles over fish were fought between the English and Irish fairies.  Folklore has it that the lights still seen to this day crossing the bay at night are the fairies returning to their respective homes after a night of frolicking and fishing.  Quite the prelude to the lovely starlit village of Ballyliffin.

The Grey Town, The Town of White Herbs, The Town on the Hillside, many names for one of the most beautiful seaside villages in Ireland.  Located at the very North of the country in the county of Donegal, this area has a multitude of archaeological sites including rock art, standing stones, marked slabs, holy wells, Mass rocks, pilgrimage sites, megalithic remains, and cairns.  Most of these sites are secretly held on private lands, protecting them from the constant tourists and potential demise of yesteryear.  The artifacts, ruins, stones date back centuries each telling stories of times gone by.  It is somewhere within the chapters of the history books that the game of golf unfolded in this town.
