The Niyama of Self Study

There is a question that the golf course asks every single time you play it, and most golfers never hear it. It is not asking about your swing plane or your grip pressure or your club selection. It is not asking about your score or your handicap or how you compare to the player beside you. It is asking something far more personal and far more revealing than any of those things. It is asking: who are you when the game gets hard? Who are you when the putt matters and the hands tighten and the mind reaches for something solid to hold onto? Who are you when the round unravels and the score is gone and there are still six holes left to play? That question asked by the course, answered by you, whether you are listening or not, is the beginning of Svadhyaya.
