Favorite Par 3 – #17 – hard not to choose this, as it’s widely regarded as one of Pete Dye’s finest creations. Sand dunes cascade down the left into Lake Michigan, while rugged fescue and towering dunes guard the right. Factor in the ever-present wind, and the all-carry tee shot becomes one of the most demanding, and memorable, you’ll ever face.
Favorite Par 4 – #8 – the blind tee shot only heightens the anxiety on an already demanding hole. Lake Michigan hugs the entire right side before coming straight into view on the approach, keeping the pressure constant from start to finish. 
Favorite Par 5 – #16 – with one of the Great Lakes hard along the left and a design that naturally slopes toward it, this hole is a true tough cookie. It may be the shortest par 5 on the course, but what it lacks in length it more than makes up for in challenge, tension, and consequence.
Favorite Hole Design – #15 – the closing four holes are among the finest stretches in all of golf, and this is a fitting opener to that run. A par 4 where Lake Michigan writes most of the story, Pete Dye’s masterful touch adds the final chapter of perfection.
Easiest Hole – #14 – there are truly no easy holes at the Straits, but the 14th at least offers a realistic chance to find the green in regulation. Listen to your caddie here and resist the urge to cut the dogleg left—it’s simply not worth the risk.
Hardest Hole – #18 – Weariness sets in as you come down the stretch at the Straits, and the 18th is utterly relentless. There is no easy path to par on this final hole wind is ever-present, length is unavoidable, and complexity defines every shot.
