The year was 1918, and across the Emerald Isle, golf was beginning to stir quietly at first, then with a growing sense of purpose. In a remote corner of County Sligo, where the Atlantic never rests and the wind writes its story in the sand, a small group of locals shared a simple, almost improbable idea: bring the game here. Not to a grand city or manicured estate, but to this wild, rugged edge of the world. And so, Enniscrone Golf Club was born not with ceremony, but with belief.

There was no course. Not yet. Only land raw, open, and shifting with the seasons. They played where they could, marking out holes across Kilcullen’s Field or near the grounds of the now-faded Scurmore Hotel. Flags were improvised, greens imagined, and fairways discovered rather than designed. It was golf in its purest form, guided not by architecture, but by instinct and joy. Those early rounds were less about score and more about possibility and the quiet sense that something enduring was taking shape.
