Cape Kidnappers Golf Course
Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand
There are no Words to Describe Perfection
AMW Faves List
Favorite Par 3 – #13 – Nestled beside the ocean with views stretching as far as the eye can see, this exquisite short hole ranks among the best in golf. It may not challenge you the most, but it leaves a lasting impression. Here, the surroundings tell the story more than the hole itself.
Favorite Par 4 – #7 – If there is ever a serene walk in golf, this is it. Rolling New Zealand countryside frames a meticulously designed Tom Doak hole, making the 7th simply perfect. Fun, beautiful, tranquil, what more could you want? Oh, and just to keep things interesting, there’s one challenging approach to the green.
Favorite Par 5 – #15 – Our favorite par 5 and a standout in design, the 15th is hard to put into words. Dramatic drop-offs line both sides of the cliff, creating a spectacular challenge at every turn. Seaside views capture your heart and linger in your soul. This is a hole you never forget.
Favorite Hole Design – #15 – As a design, Mr. Doak broke the mold. Guided by Mother Nature, the par 5 plays exactly as it should. Tough yet fair, harsh yet restrained, intense yet serene. It’s a hole that defies explanation; you simply must play it to understand it.
Easiest Hole – #8 – As a par 3, this is a true birdie opportunity. A native ravine guards the front of the tee, though it rarely causes too much trouble. Beyond that, the green’s subtle funneling guides most shots toward the pin. Take a moment to enjoy the walk down into the ravine and the climb back up to the green.
Hardest Hole – #12 – Though the 12th offers a flatter, more generous fairway, it plays long thanks to the winds sweeping in from the ocean. It may not boast the same picturesque charm as what lies ahead, but it’s a hole that can send your score in multiple directions.
Favorite Extra Sighting – countless stunning coastal New Zealand views.
Favorite Apres Golf – wineries in Hawke’s Bay!
Where to Stay – Rosewood Cape Kidnappers, Wallingford Homestead, The Manse, Greenhill Lodge, Craggy Range Cottages, Huka Lodge (2.5 hours but worth it!)
Where to Eat – The Dining Room – Cape Kidnappers, Wallingford, Bistronomy & Vintech, Mangapapa Kitchen, SAI Thai Eatery, Malo
