The Yama of Non-Stealing
There is a subtler form of dishonesty that most golfers never think to examine. It does not show up in a lifted ball or an adjusted scorecard. It lives in the moments before the shot, in the spaces between holes, in the quiet decisions made on the range when no one is watching. It is the reaching for a shortcut that hasn’t been earned, for a result that hasn’t been prepared for, for a version of the game that belongs to someone else entirely. That reaching has a name in yoga philosophy, and it is the absence of asteya.
